Social Psychology: Implicit Association Test

Basic Requirement: The requirements of this assignment include researching a specific theory/phenomenon in social psychology. Everyone will have his/her own topic to research.(Implicit Association Test) This term paper should include the following content: 1. The name and definition of the theory/phenomenon 2. Summaries of studies that have been conducted on this theory/phenomenon a. Use peer-reviewed articles here, NO websites or books! b. You need at least 6 references (i.e., articles) for this paper. c. Think of it as telling a story about the development and/or investigation of this theory or phenomenon. 3. A conclusion regarding whether or not you believe your theory/phenomenon to be widespread among people. In other words, do you think your theory is true? Do you think your phenomenon exists among most (or all) people? Grading Breakdown: 1. Abstract: 10 points A well written abstract will describe exactly what your paper is going to be informing the reader about. This should be no more than 100 words. This is usually done in about 3 to 5 sentences and provides the reader useful information about the document. 2. Content: 60 points A title page is required with your name and class name. Your essay should have a thesis statement and MUST maintain focus on that statement (in this case, it will be regarding what your theory/phenomenon is about). An author presents their main idea and supports it with various evidence and relevant logic; this will be how you write a successful thesis statement. Essays that include a thesis and supporting evidence are more sophisticated and interesting compared to those that merely summarize a group of studies. Your thesis should be in the first paragraph and should be compelling and reasonably specific. Your paper’s content should focus on a particular theory/phenomenon in social psychology. Be sure to cover as much about the topic as you can. This information should include studies that have examined the theory/phenomenon and the results and information these studies have found regarding the theory/phenomenon. Have the studies supported the theory? Have the studies refuted the theory? Have the studies shed more light on the theory/phenomenon they were examining? This will require reading a lot of peer reviewed articles from PsycINFO. Reference Rules: Papers must include detailed information from at least 6 articles. Dictionaries do not count as references. Also, you may NOT use your textbook as a reference, but – as a helpful tip – check out the references that your textbook authors cite. Those references – provided you obtain and read them – are fair game! NO WEBSITES! - ESPECIALLY WIKIPEDIA!!! The capital letters, bold font, and extra exclamation points are there to emphasize my disdain for Wikipedia as a trusted source. Be sure to cite all references in-text as well, using APA format. 3. Writing Style: 10 points Your paper should read like an essay written by a college student who has been in college for a couple of years. After all, this is a 300-level course. Cute anecdotes, definitions (i.e., Webster), or simplistic and obvious statements should be avoided. You should focus on writing an essay that someone would find compelling; one that presents a topic that would be interesting to readers; and one that presents a well-documented biography of your psychologist.
