CHAPTER 3: Conducting a Mind: Our Attention Control System
Attention is a very complex concept that involves multiple factors.
Overall, attention controls the mind as it assists our focus on what is
important at any particular moment.
To successfully attend, we need “fuel” to attend, we need to choose
the right information to attend to and be able to focus sufficiently on
it, and we need to determine the best way to respond depending upon what
we’ve learned through our attention.

Nothing is ever learned without tapping into some component of
memory. There are 3 types of memory: short-term memory (allows for very
brief retention of about 2 seconds of new information), active working
memory (the memory for temporarily holding in mind current activity, and
