Course Assignment details: Dr. Sam Kaner discusses the influence of
individual and group dynamics on, and the natural challenges of, the
decision-making processes within communities. He asserts, “Just because
you have an inclusive, participatory process does not mean everybody has
to be in on everything.” Using examples from this week’s readings in
Israel et al. and Minkler & Wallerstein, describe at least two
collaborative decision-making processes that have been used within
communities. Do the examples support Dr. Kaner’s perspective? Why or why
not?

Cultural project part 3 (Interview)
CULTURAL IMMERSION PROJECT – PART 3 INSTRUCTIONS For your information
and background knowledge,
Individual Encounter and Synthesis
You will conduct an in-depth, 1-hour interview with an individual or married couple from your selected cultural group in order to develop an understanding of the cultural factors that helped shape that individual’s or couple’s cultural identity.
A variety of issues may be explored in the interview. The knowledge you gained from both parts of the Cultural Immersion Project as well as your sense of the person/couple you interview will guide you in how personal you can get with your questions. Cultural groups and individuals vary on how private they are. Use their feedback regarding what areas you can probe. If the person is very open, go deeper. If not, respect that cultural boundary and ask yourself why that boundary is there. Issues that you may wish to explore during the interview include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Early childhood experiences and parental values;
• Earliest memories of recognizing membership in a culturally different group;
• The role of religion/spirituality;
• Immigration experiences;
• Similarities/differences between couples’ interactions in the U.S. to couples’ interactions in the individual’s culture;
• School experiences as a member of a cultural minority;
• Experiences with subtle racism or discrimination;
• Experiences with overt racism or discrimination;
• Ways the person/couple chose his/her/their career(s) or made career choices;
• The experience of being culturally different;
• Attitudes regarding the majority culture;
• Extent of desire to assimilate majority cultural attitudes, values, and lifestyles;
• Feelings of oppression;
• Feelings of anger toward majority culture;
• From the person’s/couple’s own cultural background, any potential racist attitudes toward or stereotyping of individuals from other particular cultures; and/or
• Strengths identified from the person’s/couple’s cultural background that help him/her/them cope with living in the U.S.

Once your interview is complete, you will answer the questions listed below. First person may be used in your answers. This assignment may also be in outline form instead of formatted as a traditional paper; however, you must observe correct and current APA style. The paper must have a correct title page, and you must use a reference page (no abstract is needed). A word estimate is beside each question; however, the quality of your answer is more important than the word count. You may expand further, but you do not have to do so.
1. Share some of the background of your interviewee (or couple). What is this person’s/couple’s story? (approximately 300 words)
2. How open was this person/couple? Why do you think this was? (approximately 100 words)
3. What were some key cultural events (interactions with the majority culture, experiences of racism, positive experiences with the majority culture, etc.) for this person/couple? (approximately 250 words)
4. What was your sense of this person’s/couple’s acculturation level and racial/cultural identity development? Why do you think this is the case? (approximately 200 words)
5. How did you respond emotionally toward this person/couple during the interview? Given aspects of your personal experience, why do you think you reacted this way? (approximately 250 words)
6. Based on the interview experience, what knowledge about this cultural group was added that you did not get from the previous parts of this assignment? (approximately 200 words)
7. Which part of this immersion experience (Part 1, 2, or 3) was most helpful to you in learning about this cultural group? Why do you think this was? (approximately 100 words)
This assignment will be submitted via Blackboard and LiveText.

Health Assessment of Children′s Weight
Discussion: Health Assessment
of Children′s Weight
Body measurements can provide a general picture of whether a child is
receiving adequate nutrition or is at risk for health issues. These
data, however, are just one aspect to be considered. Lifestyle, family
history, and culture—among other factors—are also relevant. That said,
gathering and communicating this information can be a delicate process.
For this Discussion, you will consider examples of children with various
weight issues. You will explore how you could effectively gather
information and encourage parents and caregivers to be proactive about
their children’s health and weight.
To prepare:
Consider the following examples of pediatric patients and their
families:
Overweight 5-year-old boy with overweight parents
Slightly overweight 10-year-old girl with parents of normal weight
5-year-old girl of normal weight with obese parents
Slightly underweight 8-year-old boy with parents of normal weight
Severely underweight 12-year-old girl with underweight parents
Select one of the examples on which to focus for this Discussion. What
health issues and risks may be relevant to the child you selected?
Based on the risks you identified, consider what further information you
would need to gain a full understanding of the child’s health. Think
about how you could gather this information in a sensitive fashion.
Consider how you could encourage parents or caregivers to be proactive
toward the child’s health.
************Post an explanation of the health issues and risks that are
relevant to the child you selected. Describe additional information you
would need in order to further assess his or her weight-related health.
Taking into account the parents’ and caregivers’ potential
sensitivities, list at least three specific questions you would ask
about the child to gather more information. Provide at least two
strategies you could employ to encourage the parents or caregivers to be
proactive about their child’s health and weight.

Analyze a case study and construct a model for identifying performance improvement opportunities
Assignment Objectives: Analyze a case study and construct a model for
identifying performance improvement opportunities
Purpose: The Performance Improvement process involves
many steps, and management of the process is a critical element of success or
failure. An important first step to identifying what improvement
opportunities might exist is to identify the problem and who it impacts. We do
this by examining sets of performance measures that relate to the
situation, distinguishing what customers are affected, and evaluating how
the current performance meets their needs and expectations. If customer
needs are not being met, we then identify opportunities to improve performance
to satisfy their expectations.
This assignment asks students to analyze a case study of a
laboratory situation, and construct a model for identifying performance
improvement opportunities using the process presented in Chapter 2 (also
reviewed in detail in the Week 2 online presentation).
Assignment Description: Based on this week’s readings and the online presentations,
analyze the “Case of the Belated Lab Test” using the 4-step model described in
Chapter 2 and Part I of this week’s online presentation . You will be creating
the first steps of a performance improvement plan for this case study.
The case is included as an attached file under the Week 2
Assignments and Assessments tab. The case study already describes the current
flow of activities, so it may be helpful to make a list of the steps and
who takes them. OPTIONAL: you can earn extra credit for including a flow chart
of the steps, but the flow chart is not mandatory.
W2A1: Your paper should be
written in APA style (minimum 3 pages) that includes the following elements:
Introduction:
Introduce what your analysis will include and what topics you will cover.
Include a preview of your findings of performance opportunities.
Body: Be sure to
address all of the following elements:
·
Create a brief description of the performance measures that are
involved in this problem: Distinguish whether they are systems measures,
process measures, or outcome measures? This is your “problem statement”.
·
Identify any internal and external customers that this situation
affects.
·
Evaluate how satisfied each customer is with the current
performance:
·
Construct a plan for how you would measure each customer’s
expectations and whether they are satisfied with the current
performance. Examine each customer’s requirements for the performance
measure: what is each customer expecting? Describe at least two types of tools
that you would use to determine their expectations and measure their
satisfaction.
Conclusion:
Summarize your findings and conclude with a list of performance opportunities
that will need to be addressed by future work teams.
Parameters: Your paper should be in APA style, with a
minimum of three pages excluding cover and reference pages. Optional: You may
want to add a flow chart of steps described the case study process.
Include your textbook and any other references in proper APA style.
